The PRO-SAFE™ safety philosophy doesn’t divide safety as active and passive safety which are independent of each but rather demonstrate the future-oriented and integrated safety thinking of Mercedes-Benz. Auxiliary systems continuously monitor the driving situation and warn the driver and intervene when a known, typical danger arises. ESP or ESP trailer stabilization function ensure a comfortable and above all safe ride. Other systems, like the COMAND control and display concept, reduce the stress of the driver by reducing the distraction of the driver through providing an overview. The driver and front passenger airbags provide protection against injuries in the interior. This protection potential is supplemented by sidebags and curtain airbags. An automatic child seat recognition system for the front passenger seat is available as an option. If there is a danger of an accident the optionally available PRE-SAFE functions intervene, whereby the sliding roof and the side windows are closed/automatically and the seatbelts are tightened. If there is danger of a renewed crash the engine is stopped and the fuel supply cut. In addition to this the doors are unlocked so that the doors can be opened from outside.
