The standard AIRMATIC air suspension ensures a relaxed drive: the all-round self-leveling suspension is designed to keep the ride height constant at all times, regardless of the type of road you are driving on. The Adaptive Damping System (ADS) which also comes as standard makes your drive even more enjoyable. It allows you to choose between three damper settings at the touch of a button, adjusting the ride to suit your individual preferences.

Driving off-road is really exciting: The GL-Class is equipped with the Off-Road Pro engineering package as standard. Many different technical details make you feel like driving on a level asphalt road when you are actually driving on a muddy forest track. The hill start assist function comes to your aid on inclines while the off-road ABS reduces the stopping distance particularly on loose surfaces and the ESP® trailer stabilization function renders the towing of a trailer considerably safer. The maximum fording depth of the GL is 600 mm. A two-speed transfer case is employed in the GL-Class. Thus you can switch from a higher on-road ratio to a lower off-road ratio. The low-range gear offers improved traction on unpaved surfaces and makes it easier to climb steep slopes. In off-road mode, the electronic driving dynamics system 4 ESR / 4 ETS adapts to the special conditions encountered in rough terrain. The timing of braking interventions at the wheels is redefined and the shift points of the 7G-TRONIC are raised.
