Safety – PRO-SAFE™
For 60 years we have developed tomorrow’s safety.

PRO-SAFE™ The 5-P safety philosophy of Mercedes-Benz.

1959. At the beginning there was an invisible revolution. When Mercedes-Benz introduced the first car incorporating passive safety measures 46 years ago, innovations like the safety passenger cell with folding zones were not visible to the naked eye. These inventions go all the way back to Béla Barényi who with his pioneering spirit made great contributions to passive safety and laid the foundations for the pioneering role of Mercedes-Benz in the field of safety.

In 1978 the S-Class helped to the success of ABS and only three years later airbags and belt tensioners were presented as a worldwide innovation. This list continued with ESP and PRE-SAFE.

2005. With the new S-Class Mercedes-Benz presented the integrated safety philosophy PRO-SAFE™ and accentuated its pioneer position in the subject of safety. With PRO-SAFE™ the vision of accident-free driving became one step nearer.

In order to turn this vision into reality we are continually aiming at ideal vehicle and traffic safety. PERFORM-SAFE, PRE-SAFE, PASSIVE-SAFE and POST-SAFE are included in PRO-SAFE™. PERFORM-SAFE cover all systems which support safe driving, detect critical driving situations, give a warning beforehand any may be helpful according to the need. If the probability of an accident happening is high PRE-SAFE™ protects the passengers and the vehicle from a probable accident. PASSIVE-SAFE systems protect the passengers appropriately during the crash. The measures lumped together under the designation of POST-SAFE are those which enhance the protection of the passengers after the accident.

With the new S-Class all PRO-SAFE™ fields have been extended and optimized. Thus the S-Class is an evidence that Mercedes-Benz will develop the safety of the future.
